Neuropathy Treatment in The Woodlands: Where Ancient Medicine Meets Modern Technology

If you live with neuropathy, you know how much it can change daily life. Burning, tingling, numbness, or pins and needles in your feet or hands can make it hard to sleep, walk comfortably, or even feel the floor beneath you. At our shared center in The Woodlands, we bring together ancient medicine and modern technology to support people with neuropathy from more than one direction. Dr. Tiffany Kristensen, DACM, a former Houston Methodist acupuncturist, offers acupuncture at Vibe Acupuncture & Holistic Healing. I offer High Intensity PEMF, frequency technology, and energy work at EllieMetanoia. And the full-body red light bed brings it all together.
This is the second post in our weekly series, Ancient Medicine Meets Modern Technology.
What is peripheral neuropathy?
Peripheral neuropathy happens when the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord are damaged or not working the way they should. Those nerves carry messages between your body and your brain. When they’re affected, the messages can get scrambled, too loud, or too quiet.
Common signs include:
Burning, tingling, or “pins and needles,” often in the feet first
Numbness, or feeling like you’re wearing socks when you’re not
Sharp, shooting, or electric pain
Sensitivity to touch, even from bedsheets
Weakness or trouble with balance
Symptoms that are worse at night
What causes neuropathy?
Diabetes is one of the most common causes. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, about one-third to one-half of people with diabetes have peripheral neuropathy (NIDDK).
Other causes include chemotherapy, low vitamin B12, heavy alcohol use, autoimmune conditions, infections, injuries, and some medications. Sometimes no clear cause is found.
What should I check with my doctor first?
As a nurse, I want to say this first. New numbness, tingling, or weakness should always be evaluated by your doctor, because finding the cause matters. If you have diabetes:
Check your feet every day for cuts, blisters, or color changes, since you may not feel them
Keep working with your care team on blood sugar
Call your doctor right away about any foot wound that isn’t healing
Everything we offer is designed to complement that care, never replace it.
How can acupuncture support neuropathy?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture uses very fine needles at specific points to support the flow of energy and circulation through the body. Dr. Kristensen tailors each treatment to the person’s symptoms and history, rather than using the same points for everyone.
Research is encouraging. A 2017 systematic review in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine looked at 15 studies and concluded that acupuncture is beneficial in some peripheral neuropathies, with the strongest evidence for diabetic neuropathy, Bell’s palsy, and carpal tunnel syndrome. The authors called for more high-quality trials (Dimitrova et al., 2017).
Acupuncture hasn’t been proven to reverse nerve damage, but it may help ease symptoms like burning, tingling, and nerve pain. Dr. Kristensen also teaches her patients mindful practices and meditation, which can help with the stress and poor sleep that so often come with chronic nerve pain.
In Dr. Kristensen’s words:
“For patients living with neuropathy, even the simplest daily activities can become a challenge. Acupuncture offers a complementary approach that helps ease discomfort, support nerve function, and improve quality of life. Through the wisdom of Chinese Medicine, we recognize the profound connection between the mind and body and the body’s innate capacity for healing. My approach goes beyond symptom management; it is about empowering patients to become active participants in their healing journey, reconnect with their bodies, and create a greater sense of balance, resilience, and well-being.” (Dr. Tiffany Kristensen, DACM)
Celeste, one of Dr. Kristensen’s patients, shared this in a Google review:
“Dr. Tiffany was able to work me in quickly when I was dealing with nerve issues that were causing a lot of discomfort, heaviness, numbness, and tingling in my legs. Within just two sessions, the heaviness, numbness, and tingling had stopped.” (Celeste P., Google review)

How does High Intensity PEMF fit in?
PEMF stands for pulsed electromagnetic field. My High Intensity PEMF system uses two full-body mats that send strong electromagnetic pulses deep into muscles and tissues. It’s designed to:
Support circulation and oxygen delivery to tissues
Boost ATP, the energy your cells use to repair themselves
Support cellular repair and recovery
Ease discomfort and support relaxation
For neuropathy specifically, research on PEMF is still early, so I see it as a supportive tool alongside acupuncture and your medical care rather than a stand-alone answer. You can read more about how PEMF supports cellular energy in Boosting ATP.
Jennifer, who has used High Intensity PEMF, shared:
“I love the high intensity PEMF. After experiencing it, I felt calm but energized and slept really well.” (Jennifer F.)
Individual results vary.
Please check with your doctor first if you have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, are pregnant, or have a serious medical condition.
What about red light therapy?
Red and near-infrared light is absorbed by the mitochondria, the energy centers of your cells, and may support circulation and cellular repair. Vibe’s full-body red light bed lets your whole body, including your feet and hands, receive that light at once. Research on red light for neuropathy is promising but still preliminary.
Learn more on Vibe’s red light therapy page. For a combined session, the Superhuman Protocol brings together PEMF, exercise with oxygen, and red light in one visit.
What else can help?
The Negative Ion/Rife/Scalar Suite: designed to support healthy blood flow, cellular energy, and deep relaxation in a restful 30 to 45 minute session. Read more in What Is Scalar Energy?
The Theta Chamber: chronic nerve pain can keep the nervous system on high alert and make sleep hard. The Theta Chamber has built-in programs for Chronic Pain and Insomnia, designed to help the body settle.
Body Code: looks for underlying imbalances that may be contributing to physical discomfort, and can be done in person, on Zoom, or by phone.
RF Foot Detox (launching soon): a waterless radio frequency system designed to support circulation, including in cold hands and feet.
What might a plan look like?
Every plan starts with a conversation. A whole-person neuropathy plan might include:
Acupuncture with Dr. Kristensen to ease symptoms and support circulation
High Intensity PEMF with me to support cellular energy and repair
Red light therapy at Vibe, or the Superhuman Protocol to combine them
The Theta Chamber to help with sleep and a stressed nervous system
All in one building, with one booking portal.
How much does it cost?
As of November 2026:
