What Is Emotion Code? How Trapped Emotions Can Affect Your Body

Emotion Code session with Stacy Ellie at EllieMetanoia in The Woodlands, TX

Emotion Code is an energy healing method that finds and releases trapped emotions, the emotional energy from past experiences that can stay stuck in the body. I use it with clients in person in The Woodlands and on Zoom, and it's one of the first places I start when someone feels stuck and can't explain why.

Even if you've long forgotten an experience, your body often hasn't. A painful breakup, a loss, years of feeling unseen as a kid. The mind moves on, but the emotional charge can linger and show up as tension, pain, anxiety, or patterns you keep repeating.

I don't recommend anything that I have not hada shift with myself. In my instance, Emotion Code was instrumental in helping me move through the grief of losing my mother to cancer in 2017.

Where does Emotion Code come from?

Emotion Code was developed by Dr. Bradley Nelson, a holistic chiropractor, and is laid out in his book The Emotion Code. The idea is simple: strong emotions we don't fully process can become trapped energy in the body. Released, that energy no longer pulls on us.

I'm a Certified Emotion Code and Body Code Practitioner, and I also spent years as a psychiatric and home health nurse. In that work, I watched people cycle through medications, specialists, and testing without ever getting to the root of what was wrong. Emotion Code gave me a way to look somewhere most of that system never does.

How does an Emotion Code session work?

A session has four parts.

  1. Muscle testing by proxy. I use applied kinesiology, also called muscle testing, to ask yes-or-no questions. I test on my own body while getting the answers from yours. That's what makes it possible to work with you whether you're in the room or across the country.

  2. Finding the emotion. We identify a specific trapped emotion, and often when it became trapped, such as a certain age or event.

  3. Releasing it. Emotion Code teaches using a magnet to release the trapped energy. I use my hand instead, swiping over the Governing Meridian, an energy pathway that runs over the head and down the back. I do this on myself, as your proxy.

  4. Repeating. We work through several emotions in one session, following what your body brings up next.

You don't have to lie on a table, relive anything, or talk through every detail. Many people are surprised by what comes up, in the best way. Sometimes it's something they'd completely forgotten.

What's the difference between Emotion Code and Body Code?

Emotion Code focuses on trapped emotions. Body Code goes a layer deeper and looks at the whole picture of what may be creating imbalance: trapped emotions, energetic interference, nutritional needs, and structural misalignments. I often use the two together in the same session.

What do people come to Emotion Code for?

People usually come to me for support with:

  • Emotional weight from the past, including grief and trauma

  • Physical pain or symptoms that don't have a clear cause

  • Anxiety and stress that feel bigger than the current situation

  • Relationship patterns that keep repeating

  • Feeling disconnected, numb, or walled off

  • Patterns passed down through the family

A big part of Emotion Code is the Heart Wall, a layer of trapped emotions that can build around the heart to protect it. I'll cover that in its own post next week.

Is there research on Emotion Code?

Emotion Code is an energy healing practice, and it hasn't been studied in large clinical trials. I want to be upfront about that.

What is well documented is the link between what we go through emotionally and our physical health. The landmark Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study followed more than 9,000 adults and found that people with more difficult childhood experiences had higher rates of heart disease, lung disease, depression, and other health problems as adults (Felitti et al., 1998). Emotion Code is one way I help people work with that emotional side, alongside the care they already have.

What will I feel after a session?

Most people feel lighter and more at peace. Clients often notice shifts faster than they expect. Some feel tired or emotional for a day or two as things settle, which is normal. Drink water, rest if you need it, and pay attention to what changes.

Can Emotion Code be done over Zoom?

Yes. Emotion Code is an energy healing technique that can be done from afar. Because I muscle test by proxy, on my own body, the session works the same way on Zoom or by phone as it does in person. You don't need to live near The Woodlands.

How much does Emotion Code cost?

As of September 2026:

  • Single session (in person, Zoom, or phone): $150

  • 4 sessions: $550

  • 8 sessions: $1,000

Cash payments get 5% off.

Ready to let go of what you've been carrying?
