The Heart Wall: Why You Might Feel Walled Off From the People You Love

A Heart Wall is a layer of trapped emotions that builds up around the heart to protect it after emotional pain. It's a concept from Emotion Code, the energy healing method I use with clients in The Woodlands and on Zoom. The wall keeps hurt out, but it can also keep love, connection, and joy from getting all the way in.
If you've ever felt numb when you wanted to feel close, or kept people at arm's length without meaning to, this post is for you.
How does a Heart Wall form?
When something painful happens, like a betrayal, a loss, a divorce, or years of feeling unwanted, the emotions from that moment can become trapped. According to Dr. Bradley Nelson, who developed Emotion Code, the subconscious may use those trapped emotions to build a wall around the heart so it doesn't get hurt the same way again.
It's a smart form of protection. The problem is that it doesn't know when to stop. Years later, the wall is still standing even though the danger has passed.
What are the signs you might have a Heart Wall?
People with a Heart Wall often describe:
Feeling disconnected or numb, even around people they love
Trouble receiving love, compliments, or help
Keeping people at a distance, then feeling lonely
Going through the motions without feeling much joy
Relationships that follow the same painful pattern
A heaviness or tightness in the chest that doesn't have a medical explanation
Any chest pain or tightness should always be checked by a doctor first. Emotion Code works alongside medical care, never in place of it.
In my experience as a practitioner since 2019, a Heart Wall is the number one contributor to every single challenge or obstacle to healing. In every first session with a client, I get that I must clear the Heart Wall first.
How is a Heart Wall released?
In an Emotion Code session, I muscle test by proxy, on my own body, to ask whether a Heart Wall is present. If it is, we identify the trapped emotions it's made of, one at a time. I release each one by swiping my hand over the Governing Meridian, an energy pathway that runs over the head. Because a Heart Wall is built in layers, releasing it can take more than one session.
You don't have to retell your story or relive painful memories. The process is gentle, and each release takes only moments. You can read about the full session process in What Is Emotion Code?
What might change once it's gone?
Once a Heart Wall comes down, people may feel lighter, more open, and more like themselves. It can become easier to cry, laugh, or receive a hug without bracing, and relationships may start to soften. Everyone's experience is different, and individual results vary.
Can a Heart Wall be released over Zoom?
Yes. Because I muscle test by proxy, Emotion Code works the same way on Zoom or by phone as it does in person, so you can do this from anywhere.
How much does it cost?
As of October 2026, an Emotion Code or Body Code session is $150, or $550 for 4 sessions and $1,000 for 8. Because a Heart Wall comes down in layers, a package can be a good fit. Cash payments get 5% off.
