If you live with anxiety, you may already know that there’s rarely one single answer. Anxiety touches the mind, the body, the nervous system, and the emotions all at once. That’s why, at our shared center in The Woodlands, we bring together ancient medicine and modern technology under one roof. Dr. Tiffany Kristensen, DACM, offers acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine at Vibe Acupuncture & Holistic Healing. I offer the Theta Chamber, the Emotion Code, Belief Coding, and frequency technology at EllieMetanoia. Together, we can support anxiety from every angle.

This is the first post in a new weekly series, Ancient Medicine Meets Modern Technology, where Dr. Kristensen and I show how our services work together for specific health challenges.

What does anxiety do to the body?

Anxiety isn’t just worried thoughts. When your body senses danger, real or remembered, it shifts into fight, flight, or freeze. Your heart races, your breathing gets shallow, your muscles tighten, and your digestion slows down. When that happens over and over, your body can start to treat high alert as normal.

That’s why anxiety so often shows up physically: a tight chest, a nervous stomach, tense shoulders, trouble sleeping, or feeling exhausted and wired at the same time. I explain more in Why Does My Body Feel Stuck in Stress Mode?

Why combine ancient medicine and modern technology?

Each approach reaches a different layer:

  • Ancient medicine works with the body’s energy, its meridians, and its natural rhythms. Traditional Chinese Medicine has been used for thousands of years to restore balance.

  • Modern technology uses light, sound, vibration, and electromagnetic frequencies to help the nervous system shift into calmer states.

  • Energy work goes beneath the surface to the emotions and beliefs that may be keeping the alarm switched on.

When these work together, you’re not just calming the symptoms of anxiety for an afternoon. You’re supporting the body, the nervous system, and the emotional roots at the same time.

How can acupuncture help with anxiety?

Acupuncture uses very fine needles placed at specific points on the body to help restore the flow of energy and support balance. Many people find it deeply calming, and some fall asleep on the table.

Research is encouraging. A 2021 review in Annals of General Psychiatry looked at 20 randomized controlled trials and found that acupuncture showed beneficial effects for reducing anxiety in people with generalized anxiety disorder compared with control groups (Yang et al., 2021).

Dr. Kristensen offers acupuncture at Vibe, and what makes her practice unique is how much she teaches. Along with treatment, she shows her patients mindful practices and meditation they can use on their own. In her words:

“When I treat anxiety with acupuncture, I focus on empowering my patients by helping them understand the powerful connection between their mind and body. I believe education is just as important as treatment. When patients begin to recognize how their thoughts, emotions, and stress responses influence their physical health, they can become active participants in their own healing. My goal isn’t just to help someone feel better during an acupuncture session, but to give them the awareness and tools to better regulate their nervous system, break unhealthy patterns, and create lasting changes in their well-being.” (Dr. Tiffany Kristensen, DACM)

That belief is something we share. I feel the same way about teaching my clients to support themselves at home, which I write about in Why I Teach My Clients to Support Themselves at Home.

What about Chinese herbal medicine?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, herbs are combined into individualized formulas based on your unique pattern, not just your symptoms. Two people with anxiety may receive very different formulas.

Dr. Kristensen creates personalized herbal formulas at Vibe Acupuncture & Holistic Healing. As a nurse, I always add this: herbs can interact with medications, so please tell both Dr. Kristensen and your doctor about everything you take.

How does the Theta Chamber support a calmer nervous system?

The Theta Chamber combines five technologies in one 30-minute session: gentle rotating motion that feels like floating, cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES), binaural beats, light patterns, and a PEMF mat. It’s designed to guide your brain into calmer theta and alpha states, and it has built-in programs for Anxiety, Reduce Stress, and Insomnia.

One of those tools, CES, has been studied specifically for anxiety. A 2022 meta-analysis in Frontiers in Psychiatry pooled 11 randomized controlled trials with 794 participants and found CES had a moderate effect in reducing anxiety, with no serious side effects reported (Chou et al., 2022).

Dr. Kristensen experienced the Theta Chamber for herself:

“I have been doing the Theta Chamber for 28 days and it has been a game changer on my patience and focus.” (Dr. Tiffany Kristensen, DACM, owner of Vibe Acupuncture & Holistic Healing, where EllieMetanoia is located)

Individual results vary.

How do Emotion Code and Belief Coding help with anxiety?

Sometimes anxiety is rooted in something that happened long ago. A frightening experience, years of feeling unsafe, or a loss you never fully grieved can leave emotional energy stuck in the body.

  • The Emotion Code helps find and release those trapped emotions, including fear, worry, and panic. You don’t have to relive or retell the memory, and sessions work in person, on Zoom, or by phone.

  • Belief Coding finds the early experiences behind beliefs like “I’m not safe” or “Something bad is going to happen” and helps rewire them.

What else can help?

  • The Negative Ion/Rife/Scalar Suite: 30 to 45 minutes of deep rest while plasma light frequencies, scalar waves, and negative ion rain support a calmer mental state.

  • AO Scan: a wellness tool you can use at home between sessions to keep supporting your balance.

What might a plan look like?

Every person is different, so we always start with a conversation. But a whole-person anxiety plan might include:

  1. Acupuncture with Dr. Kristensen to calm the body and restore balance, along with mindful practices and meditation you can use on your own

  2. The Theta Chamber with me to help retrain the nervous system toward calmer states

  3. Emotion Code or Belief Coding to release the emotional roots

  4. Chinese herbs from Dr. Kristensen, plus meditation and AO Scan at home, to keep supporting you between visits.

All of this happens in one building, with one booking portal.

Is this a replacement for therapy or medication?

No. Everything we offer is designed to complement, not replace, your care with your doctor or counselor. Please don’t stop or change any medication without talking to your prescriber. If you’re in crisis or having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988 any time.

How much does it cost?

As of October 2026:

  • Theta Chamber: $105 per session, or 6 sessions for $579

  • Emotion Code or Body Code: $150 per session, or 4 sessions for $550

  • Belief Coding: $333 for a session of up to 2 hours

  • Negative Ion/Rife/Scalar Suite: $63 per session, or unlimited for $350 a month with no contract

  • Acupuncture and Chinese herbs: see Vibe’s website for current pricing
